• The International Tourism Society, with the support of Planeterra, released a much-needed International Voluntourism Guidelines for Commercial Tour Operators. Tips include transparency in reports and avoiding the use of “poverty images” for marketing purposes. We couldn’t agree more.
Work Abroad News
• Hong Kong remains the most expensive city for expat business people to live in.
• Fifty per cent of expats who move to Dubai admit that they didn’t know exactly what they were getting themselves into. (We’re not sure if that’s necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes, the adventure can be in the unknown.) However, surveyed expats in Dubai have also revealed that they believe they’ll earn more money overseas—but that their salary expectations don’t meet those that are offered.
Study Abroad News
• Where are all the young Icelanders? As it turns out, they’re all studying abroad, with a whopping 20 per cent of students currently located overseas. Compare this with the UK, where only 1.7 per cent of students are attending a university abroad.
